Art Market Insights
Anne Katrine Senstad: Radical Light, Seinäjoki Kunsthalle 2021
Emerging Opportunities in the Finnish Art Market and Art as an Investment Asset Class
This report delivers a structured analysis of the Finnish visual arts market, covering its current configuration, emerging trends, and long-term development potential in both domestic and international contexts. It draws on international market reports, national statistics, and interviews with Finnish collectors, investors, and gallerists to assess the sector’s economic, cultural, and structural dynamics.
Commissioned by Frame Contemporary Art Finland and conducted by FUTUARTS the study combines global market intelligence with local expertise. It positions Finland within a broader market shift where visual art functions simultaneously as cultural capital and an alternative asset class, shaped by digitalization, increased transparency, and evolving collector behavior.
The report identifies key structural developments: diversified revenue models, the expansion of digital commerce, and changing collector–audience dynamics. It highlights a central constraint: Finland combines strong artistic education, production quality, and cultural capital with limited market scale, liquidity, and international integration. Realizing growth requires targeted internationalization, structural reform, and a more integrated view of art as both cultural and financial capital.
In response, the report proposes concrete measures to improve market resilience and growth, including new business models, stronger public–private collaboration, increased international market participation, and strategies to activate a younger, more diverse collector base.
